Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency created in 2013 to mock the very idea of cryptocurrency — a so-called “memecoin” with a dog theme that was endorsed by the likes of Elon Musk, Gene Simmons, and Mark Cuban. But not only celebrities fall head over heels in love with this digital currency, which is known for its iconic mascot Shiba Inu.
Bradenton’s Willy-Yums Hotdogs and More (pronounced “Will-Yums”) has also recently started accepting it. Opened in 2017 by Rob Williams, the restaurant offers a range of gourmet hot dogs ranging from classic New York and Chicago styles to combinations that put a street food twist. Ever heard of a pizza hot dog or a bacon mac and cheese hot dog?
“I’ve been a fan of Dogecoin for two years now,” says Williams. He became interested in cryptocurrency after a friend introduced him to Robinhood, the investment trading website and app.
When Williams started investing in the meme coin, it was valued at just $0.002, well below its current value of around 17 cents. “I said, ‘You know what? i will get it It is not expensive. Let me go ahead and get something,'” says Williams.
What exactly is the Dogecoin draw? Williams says he enjoys how easy and fun it is to buy and trade. That the currency’s mascot is a dog only adds to its appeal. “I like the fact that it’s DOGE and I make hot dogs,” he says. “I like the idea of hot dogs.”
Now other Dogecoin fans can use crypto cash as their preferred payment method at Willy-Yums simply by scanning a QR code and entering their order amount. And as if that wasn’t enough for Doge lovers, Willy-Yums is offering a special sale in February. Those who pay for their order with Dogecoin receive a 50 percent discount on the total amount.
Willy-Yums Hotdogs and More is located at 2003 14th St.W., Bradenton. For more information, call (941) 243-6906 or visit the restaurant’s Facebook page.
