The CEO of the world’s largest film exhibition company AMC Entertainment says his company is well on the way to accepting the meme cryptocurrencies Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) in the first quarter of this year.
Dogecoin and Shiba Inu are coming to AMC theaters soon
AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aaron has given an update on his company’s progress in adopting the meme cryptocurrencies Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB).
AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE: AMC), also known as AMC Theaters, is the largest movie exhibition company in the United States, Europe, and the world. The company owns or operates approximately 950 theaters and 10,500 screens worldwide.
Aron tweeted Thursday that he has been repeatedly asked when AMC expects to accept Dogecoin and Shiba-Inu cryptocurrencies “for all payments made through the AMC website and mobile app.” He clarified that he had been told that AMC was still “on track” for the promised implementation in the first quarter, and noted that the exact month would most likely be March.
The AMC manager announced last November that his company would accept DOGE and SHIB via Bitpay. At this point, Bitpay hadn’t started supporting Shiba Inu. Aron claimed that the crypto payment processing company decided to support SHIB at his request.
Aron also said at the time that AMC will begin adopting Shiba Inu in the first quarter of this year. At the beginning of December, Bitpay, which was already supporting DOGE, started supporting SHIB.
