Former US President Donald Trump says cryptocurrencies are “possibly a disaster waiting to happen.” He also said that they were “possibly fake”. His comments followed another when he said that Bitcoin “looked like a scam”.
Trump is still not a fan of Bitcoin or crypto
Donald Trump spoke about cryptocurrency in an interview with Fox Business on Tuesday. When asked whether he has dealt with Bitcoin or cryptos, Trump promptly replied: “I’m not doing that. I like the United States currency. ”He stated:
I think the others may be a disaster waiting to happen.
“I have a feeling it [cryptocurrency] harms the US currency, ”he continued. “I think we should strengthen ourselves, we should invest in our currency, not in” [cryptocurrencies]. ”He continued to exclaim,“ You [cryptocurrencies] can be fake, who knows what they are. “
Regarding crypto, the former president admitted, “They are certainly something people don’t know much about.” He repeated:
No, I wasn’t a big fan.
Trump has always been a critic of Bitcoin and crypto. In June, he said Bitcoin “seems like a scam”. He added, “I don’t like it because it’s another currency that competes with the dollar … I want the dollar to be the currency of the world.”
In 2019, while he was still President of the United States, Trump tweeted: “I’m not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that are not money and whose value is very volatile and based on thin air. Unregulated crypto assets can facilitate illegal behavior, including drug trafficking and other illegal activities. “
