The European payment and transaction service provider Worldline has teamed up with Bitcoin Suisse, a Swiss Bitcoin service provider, to bring its new omnichannel payment solution to the market. The new service called WL Crypto Payments will enable the more than 85,000 merchants on the Worldline network to accept BTC in their point of sale (POS) and e-commerce payment gateways. The integration of Bitcoin payments into the platform is the latest development in a partnership that started in 2019.
“This is a historic milestone for the introduction of cryptocurrencies in Switzerland and beyond,” said Dr. Arthur Vayloyan, CEO of Bitcoin Suisse. “This step proves once again that Switzerland is a leader in collaborative innovation and a pioneer in the crypto and blockchain industry.
The acceptance and development of Bitcoin has increased in Switzerland as companies opt for innovation. In June, banking giant BBVA launched bitcoin trading and custody services in the country. The launch integrated a Bitcoin management system into the BBV Switzerland app. However, it wasn’t clear whether users could withdraw funds to wallets they controlled. In April, insurance company AXA began offering a Bitcoin-based payment option in the country to meet growing customer demand.
With WL Crypto Payments, Swiss merchants who use Worldline’s payment solutions can enable their customers to buy their products and services with Bitcoin. Business owners can either install the dedicated mobile app named after the new offer or integrate the Worldline plug-in into their e-commerce shop. Customers can pay with the Bitcoin wallet of their choice, and merchants have the option to automatically convert the payment into Swiss Francs (CHF).
“The introduction of acceptance of cryptocurrencies at the POS in Switzerland is great proof of our ambition,” said Marc Schulep, CEO of Worldline Switzerland. “Worldline wants to offer merchants around the world tangible added value and enable smooth and modern payments in all markets in which we operate. We look forward to working with Bitcoin Suisse on this pioneering project. “
